Dhaulagiri Region
The seventh-highest mountain peak in the world is the gorgeous white mountain known as Dhaulagiri. The word for mountain in Sanskrit is Dhavala, which means brilliant white and lovely, and Giri, which means mountain. Also named after this peak is the Dhaulagiri zone. The peak rises to a height of 8167 meters above sea level. In addition, it is the highest peak entirely within Nepal. From the Kali Gandaki River in the west to Bheri, this massif stretches 120 kilometers. The Dhaulagiri summit is breathtakingly beautiful. Most of India’s mountains higher than 8000 meters can’t be seen from the plains, however Dhaulagiri is readily seen from northern Bihar.Trekking in the Dhaulagiri region gives breathtaking views of the Dhaulagiri Range, Annapurna Range, Tilicho Peak, Nilgiri South, Nilgiri North, and a number of other mountains.
Trekking in Dhaulagiri is a highly adventurous excursion on one of Nepal’s undiscovered trekking routes. The trip begins at the meeting of the Myagdi and Kali Gandaki rivers and takes hikers to a less traveled and populated spot of unspoiled paradise. The trail travels through high alpine, deserted valleys, thick forest, and terraced agricultural regions. The following days’ hike takes you to an uninhabited valley below tall mountains, passing past glaciers and moraines. There are a few popular trekking routes in this area, including the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek and the Dhaulagiri Sanctuary (South Base Camp) Trek.The area also features notable passes including French pass, which is at 5360 meters, and Dhampus pass, which is at 5200 meters. The most hard and adventurous trekking route is in this area, although it is highly feasible with the right equipment, an experienced guide, and fortitude and self-discipline. Though it is a less populated and less traveled area of Nepal, this region is not well-liked by hikers. Less lodging options are available throughout the hike path as well. Technical and challenging, Dhaulagiri trekking requires endurance and stamina. As the elevation begins to rise, it leads us to an uninhabited valley where trekking can only be done with the assistance of trained staff in camping tents.
It is a rare opportunity to stay with indigenous Magar ethnic community members when trekking in Dhaulagiri. Another benefit of visiting the Dhaulagiri region is the opportunity to learn about local cultures and ways of life while staying at their guesthouse. The Dhaulagiri hiking region is a blessing for true nature lovers due to its lush terrain, endearing locals, high passes with magnificent snow-capped summits including Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Manaslu, and several adjacent peaks. Along with the passes and mountains, this area is also home to a variety of rare plants and animals in its rolling hills and pristine surroundings. The people that inhabit this area have been protecting the region’s pure nature and hidden treasures by adhering to their own lifestyle and distinctive culture.
